For sale and in very good, near excellent condition for its age - Antonio Grauso Bowlback Mandolin with original felt slip cover. This mandolin has aged remarkably well since being built by hand in New York City (the label reads ‘ano 1887‘) and is generally in beautiful structural and cosmetic health. The tone is sweet and dynamic with a lute-like luscious voice that appreciates a light, orchestral touch. It is currently strung with GHS A240 ultra-lights and the original bridge is intact, original tuners working well, no fret wear with minimal relief in the neck, impressive geometry for a 100+ year old little mandolin!! The bowlback is made of solid rosewood and is absolutely stunning (see photo). It may have been refinished In its time, the condition of the wood is stunning , have a close look! Beautiful rosewood headstock overlay, mahogany neck. The inlay is in great shape overall with a friendly mother of Pearl butterfly on the pick guard. There is a long hairline crack that runs the length of the fingerboard that is stable (see photo).
It is rare to find one of these bowlback instruments in serviceable, let alone collectible condition like this with such great tone and playability.
